In its simplest sense, autonomy is about a person’s ability to act on his or her own values and interests.
Taken from ancient Greek, the word means ‘self-legislation’ or ‘self-governance….
In order to do these things, the autonomous person must have a sense of self-worth and self-respect.
If you own nothing else in this life,
Own your mind:
Your thoughts, your concerns, your questions,
No matter how unpopular.
In a world that encourages independent thinking,
But simultaneously expects herd behaviour,
Hold on to that one thing that sets you apart.
“- unless I am myself, I am nobody.”
– Virginia Woolf
